Sakleshpur Green Route Trek

The Railway Segment from Sakleshpur to Kukke Subramanya road junction is known as green route trek and very popular amongs the trekkers in western ghats. The length of the trek is some 52 km which comprises 58 tunnels, 109 bridges and about 25 waterfalls. The railway track was closed down in 1996 for converting it to broad gauge from meter gauge. Goods trains started running on the track since 2005 and operations for passenger trains resume in 2008. Most of trekkers starts from Sakleshpur and continues till Yedakumari which is some 22 km distance.

Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Karnataka

* The Gold mines at Kolar are more than 3000 meter deep. These are one of the deepest cold mines of the world. * During British Raj, KGF was called as mini England due to its pleasant weather and terrain. * Kolar was the 2nd town in Asia to get electricity. * Length of tunnels at Kolar gold fields was 1400 km. * Organized mining started at KGF in 1880. * Many workers at KGF suffered from Silicosis which occurred due to inhalation of crystalline Silica dirt. * As per the legends, Kolar Gold fields are mentioned in Ramayana, the most worshipped holy book for Hindus.

Hogenakkal

Hogennakal falls is a series of waterfalls on the Cauvery River and the place where Cauvery enters into Tamilnandu. Hogenakkal derived from hoge:smokes, Kal:rocks, that means smoking rock.Hogenakkal Waterfalls had been in news due to controversy on a dam at river Cauvery. Locals of Tamilnandu also call it as Marikottayam.
