Hi Pratyush.. Thanks for dropping by...

Well near pune there are many places which you can explore on weekends.. - There are many popular forts where you can go for trekking...

Purandar, Raigarh, Rajgarh, Torna, Lohgarh [ I don't think i should mention singarh fort ).

Some of these treks are for 2 days even [ you need to get prepare to spend night in the forest ]. Bheemshankar is another place which you can try and its worth a visit. Now lets come to beaches nearby.

Go to Mumbai ( Panvel ) > Catch a train on konkan railways > Get down at Dapoli and then you can go to Guhagarh, Karde beach ( Both of these beaches are simply stupendous ). - If you are getting a bus from panvel then try to go to Nagaon beach, Kashid and there is one fort near by. ( I hope you can also get direct buses from pune to Nagaon and kashid )...again this coastline is also superb and less visited... -

Further south you can try some beaches in Sindhudurg district ( Tarakarli, Devbhag and Malvan ). There is also a highly touted forest reserve ( Amboli forest )...place is good but don't expect any wild life... - There are some other beaches on the same coastline of maharashtra in konkan Harihareshwar and - If you want to witness ancient indian art then you can try aurangabad and visit Ajanta and Ellora caves... There is one famous fort as well...

Deliberately I have not included Alibaug in this list... Now from my personal experience I would recommend you to try Guhgarh and Karde ( Prefer Public transport )...You won't regret...

i will suggest you Raigarh, it is a magnificent hill fortress, situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, The fort once served as the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Great Maratha king, in the 1674.

Travel Adda - Birla Mandir

"Hey Pratyush it is slightly a dated thread but if your still looking for getaways, Pune is getaway lovers' paradise, as numerous beach towns, hill fort getaways and heritage sitess surround it. Depending upon the time you have on your hands, you could choose a suitable getaway. There are places like Panchgani, Durshhet, Mahabaleshwar, all at a distance of around 100-120 kms from pune. Kolad, Matheran, Alibaug and Nashik are all great places to unwind, located with in 200 kms from Pune. Places like Harihareshwar, Divegar, Ganapatiphule, Dapoli could be wonderful retreats too.
Enjoy your weekends .. Happy travelling :)"
