Hi,

I am planning to do a bike trip to visit the mentioned places.

I am planning to start on 27th March and hope to atleast cover till Tabo.

Route plan

Day 1: Delhi->Shimla

2: Shimla->Sangla

3: Sangla-Chitkul-kalpa

4: kalpa-Tabo

5: Tabo-Kaza

6: Kaza-kalpa

7: kalpa-narkanda

8: Narkanda-kalka

9: kalka-Delhi

Can some one suggest something on this matter-

if the route is open

Any particular permit to acquire etc.

Thanks in advance

It snowed heavily recently so i would not suggest you to take this route at this time of the year. Road will be blocked in many sections. if possible then postpone your trip till April mid.

Itinerary is well-planned and do-able but it is subjected to road condition.

Thanks for the information Vishnu. I know it will be a tough nut to deal with the roads at this time, but, I have decided to give it a try with a friend of mine.

Will post about it once I am back from the trip. . . . hopefully Tongue

I will also encourage you to give it a try. If lucky, you may find a share taxi from Rampur to Kaza. Rampur is the best place to find transport to Spiti so wait and watch there.

I will be riding there on my bike, so transport should not be any issue.

Here goes nothing. To Chitkul and beyond. . . . .

Smile There is no "beyond" Chitkul!. The road ends there. The end of the old indo-Tibet Road.

I travelled by car from Delhi. Delhi - Shimla - Sangla - Chitkul. The road from Kachcham to Sangla is one of the most exhilerating drives. As is the road from Sangla to Chitkul. Scenic, cold and adventurous. I visited the place in May/Jun. Apple orchards are in abundance and the views are superb. I checked with the HP Toursm office about the conditions of the road before leaving Shimla. My original destination was Rekong Peo. They had no clue about a landslide that had occured. I finally detoured and travelled to Sangla, was totally worth it!

Visit Sarahan enroute if possible. It lies between Shimla and Sangla. There is an ancient Kali temple there and the location is good.

Yeahh.

Well I went till Recong Peo but couldn't visit sangla as it was closed due to land slides and my bike was completely knackered enroute karcham dam.

Rains and landslides prevented me from visiting Kaza also, but the trip was fun to say the least.

I did went to Sarahan and what a pretty place. Rellay a good spot to have 2-3 days of a family vacaiton.

God willing will try to do again this trip and the chandratal trek.

Thanks for your comment. Sarahan is also one of my favorite places in this  side. Wish you good luck for the trek to Chandratal.

Hi Sivakumaran,

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your experience. Indeed, Sangla, Chitkul, Kinnaur side is a delight for adventure seekers. Sad to hear that you could not visit Rekong peo due to Landslide.

Old Hindustan-Tibet road goes till Kaurik/Lapche. some people say that it goes till Shipki-la from where satluj enters. Nevertheless Chitkul is also considered as the last village towards Tibet on this side.

Great resort at aiazmng location earlier i have stayed at Banjara Camp which is not in Sangla but 8 Km outside the city in a remote place with no market or anything nearby . Moreover the price is double of this place ! We really had a nice time with great food and warm staff! Will sure visit again !

Glad to hear about your trip.. Banjara camps is indeed outrageously expensive.
